RAPP Lab 4.4: Movement, Music and Machines

What stories can artists and intelligent machines co-create, and who decides how they are told?Over two days, actors, movement artists, musicians and sound artists from the Canberra creative community will work alongside robots at the ÎçÒ¹AV's Collaborative Robotics Lab. On Monday evening, they open the doors and share what they have made.Since 2017, RAPP Lab (Robots, Art, People and Performance Laboratory) has brought artists, engineers and audiences together through curiosity, experimentation and play, from Indigenous choreography to physical theatre ensembles. RAPP Lab 4.4 adds music to that conversation. Learn more at https://rapp-lab.roboticart.orgAt the centre of the evening is ENACT, an embodied AI developed by Dr Maleen Jayasuriya and Piumi Wijesundara, which responds to a performer's body in real time. Alongside it are Dr Richard Savery's Keirzo music robots. Participants will improvise with both, devise short pieces, and look inside ENACT's neural network to see what it "pays attention to".This is a work-in-progress sharing, not a polished production, surprises included.AI is arriving in the creative arts quickly, often with little say from the artists whose work it draws on. RAPP Lab takes a different route, building its systems with performers and working through questions of ownership, authorship and benefit openly with the artists in the room. After the performances, join the conversation: what should ethical collaboration between artists, technologists and AI look like, and how might a community, rather than tech companies, shape it?Stay on for light refreshments and a chance to meet the artists, researchers and robots. No technical background needed.Date and timeMonday 26 October 2026, 6.30pm to 8.30pm (AEDT)Showcase from 6.30pm, followed by light refreshments and networking.VenueTheatrette 1A21, Building 1ÎçÒ¹AV11 Kirinari StreetBruce ACT 2617Getting thereTheatrette 1A21 is near Mizuna Cafe on the ÎçÒ¹AV campus.Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yMR3bxc8JhB3Xmmg9Led byDr Maleen Jayasuriya, Piumi Wijesundara, Dr Richard Savery, Prof Damith Herath, and A/Prof Janie Busby Grant (ÎçÒ¹AV)CostFree. Impact Analysis for Researchers Full-Day Workshop

Staff from the ÎçÒ¹AV’s Health Research Institute and Research Services are offering a free full-day professional development workshop for UC staff to build their understanding of research impact analysis and explore practical tools, such as the Global Impact Analytics Framework, that can support robust impact claims and impact narratives. Impact analysis helps researchers understand the connections between research activities, outcomes and impacts, and how change occurs within complex real-world contexts. Developing these skills is increasingly important for research planning, evaluation, stakeholder engagement and demonstrating research value. The full-day workshop will encompass presentations, discussions and practical examples covering the meaning of ‘impact’, an ecosystem approach for a pathway to impact, meaningfully describing research impact, and tools to measure it. Participants will gain practical skills in understanding, planning, evidencing and analysing research impact, supported by real-world examples, assessment approaches and impact analysis tools.Details: Date: Tuesday 17 November 2026Time: 9.00am to 4.00pmLocation: 11B50 (Building 11, Level B, Room 50), UC CampusThe session will be facilitated by:Professor Luis Salvador-Carulla, UC Health Research InstituteDr Sally Fitzpatrick, UC Health Research InstituteAssociate Professor, Sue Lukersmith, UC Health Research InstituteKailey Tonini, UC Research ServicesThe workshop combines internationally recognised expertise in impact evaluation from the developers of the Global Impact Analytics Framework with practical experience in research impact planning, narrative development and institutional impact support. It is suitable for researchers at all career stages, as well as HDR candidates and professional staff supporting research impact.Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Places are limited and registration is essential.Learn more and register via Humanitix: https://events.humanitix.com/impact-analysis-for-researchers
