The Happiest Place on Earth

This digital illustration is my creative response to the poem Two Scavengers in a Truck Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes. The poem displays themes of class inequality, poverty and the falsehood of the âAmerican Dreamâ. The poem, with its themes of financial struggle and inequality, inspired me to undertake some research about poverty in America. I found a 2017 Report âWorking for the Mouse: A Survey of Disneyland Employees,â which surveyed 5,000 employees at Southern California Disneyland park. The survey revealed the depressing nature of working at âthe happiest place on earthâ. The illustration conveys the false nature of the modern âAmerican dreamâ. The illustration was created using Procreate.
